About Albir - Alfas del Pi

Sandwiched between the towns of Benidorm and Altea on the northern Costa Blanca, Spain, the small town of Albir is popular with holidaymakers who prefer a less frenetic location. In contrast with Benidorm which is a fast and lively resort, Albir is somewhat quieter but still has some great beaches and a variety of facilities.

Albir is located in an area known as Alfas del Pi and was originally called 'L'Alfas de Polop' (Alfas means 'sown land'), it was settled by the Moors during the Arab occupation of Spain and they developed agriculture in the region, growing almonds, olives, grape vines and various fruits. Albir became a municipality in its own right in 1836.

Albir grew with the success of Benidorm in the 1960's and 1970's as that town became one of the most visited coastal locations in Europe, and Albir itself became an established resort.
